Workshop Overview
For the last four years we have developed
and taught on over 17 highly successful CPD approved Workshops
in HIV resistance and clinical pharmacology, having had
more than 500 delegates attend and rating the course content
very highly.
In 2007 we plan to commence a new series
of workshops. The number of Workshops will stay the same,
five and retain the duration and content of each Workshop
at 12 hours each. Feedback has been that delegates appreciated
the extra time to discuss more case studies in greater detail.
The introduction of interactive handsets had allowed more
interaction, and made learning an easier task. As a result
delegate feedback shows an in-depth understanding of the
options for HIV treatment management.
Workshop Content
The course serves as forum for education
and discussion around the current thinking and practice
in the drug management of patients with HIV. The course
concentrates specifically on HIV drug resistance and clinical
pharmacology as it relates to HIV therapeutics.
These new workshops will be run as an
academic education association : ID Education led by Professor
Clive Loveday and Dr Steve Taylor, with constantly updated
and revised materials to provide greater emphasis on clinical
care and interactive learning.
The Workshop content will feature:
• An introduction to the
basic concepts of HIV drug resistance; its background and
impact on treatment decisions.
• Interactive clinical cases, demonstrating principles
learned, will be conducted after each didactic lecture to
aid learning.
• A demonstration of web based resources available
for resistance interpretation
• Pharmacological principles guiding HIV therapeutics.
• The “how’s and why’s” of
using boosted protease inhibitor regimens.
• Predicting and avoiding negative drug interactions.
• A demonstration of web based resources available
to predict pharmacological drug interactions.
• In depth case discussions covering the current treatment
dilemmas faced by HIV physicians.
• How to utilise resistance and pharmacology in clinical
practice to optimise patient care.
• Invited “guest clinicians” to presents
real life case studies or “hot topics”.
• The resistance and PK of new and investigational
drugs.
• Cases studies demonstrating how these new agents
may be best used in clinical practice.
Your contribution on the course will be encouraged through
interaction using case studies and novel learning technologies.
CPD has been applied for and a certificate of attendance
will be available.
